Fashion has never been a friend of mature women. Every season another new face comes and steals all the flashes.
Gladly, something is shifting in the industry. We still have the young and beautiful. One year is Cara and the other is Kendall; and not even them are free of photoshop. However, in an age where senior citizens rule the world, fashion had to catch up.
The trend is not entirely new. In 2008, the blog Advanced Style broke paradigms introducing to the world the street style of New York’s finest senior ladies. Soon after, Lanvin launched a campaign featuring real people. Lanvin’s designer Alber Elbaz is very open about his preferences for the real and imperfect.
The ageless trend seems to be coming to a full circle in 2015. Late in 2014, Dolce & Gabbana announced its Summer 2015 featuring three very stylish Sicilian nonnas. And, today, Céline unveiled Joan Didion, famous American author, as its Spring muse.
It’s a nice change of pace to see women of flesh, bone and a brain in fashion campaigns.
