Scottish National Gallery is getting a new addition to its collection. Christian Hook’s portrait of the actor Alan Cumming was the winning commission for the Sky Arts portrait artist of the year competition.
The Scottish-American actor is known for his stage performance in Cabaret and role in films like the X-Men. He also was awarded an OBE back in 2009 for his services on entertainment and his role as an LGBT campaigner.
The piece was made in New York where Cumming lives. Even so, his Scottish heritage was not forgotten and the actor was portrait with a tartan scarf.
Scotland heritage in general was an important subject in 2014 because of the Scottish Independence Referendum that happened last September.
